GMC, assez peu connue du marché européen, est une filiale de la GM qui produit, parallèlement aux utilitaires Chevrolet, des camions, des fourgons (des vans), des pick ups (tel que ce modèle proposé par Oldtimerfarm) et des SUV (sport utility vehicles), très à la mode en Europe depuis quelques années déjà.
A la base de la société, on trouve un certain Max Graboswky, qui crée une société appelée la Rapid Motor Vehicle society, et qui a la particularité insigne d'être la première marque à fabriquer des camions purement utilitaires à usage commercial, puisque précédemment ce genre de véhicules ne se trouvait qu'à l'armée. La RMVC est rachetée par la General Motors en 1909, et deux ans plus tard, ce sera au tour de la Reliance Motor Car Company, les deux société étant fondues en une seule : la GMC Trucks. Au fil du temps, et afin de ne pas confondre la maison-mère et sa filiale, la General Motors se défait de son extension "company" dont hérite seulement la branche utilitaires. Afin de démontrer sa robustesse et son aptitude à résister à toutes les épreuves, aussi bien du terrain que climatiques, un GMC parcourt en 1916 le chemin Seattle – New York en 30 jours, et en 1926, c'est au tour d'un deux-tonnes à se lancer dans un périple New York – San Francisco en cinq jours. En 1943, GMC rachète les parts de la Yellow Coach, une société de cars établie à Chicago. Elle va fournir au réseau des bus et des cars interurbains américains la plupart de ses modèles, qui vont sillonner les Etats-Unis de 1943 à 1987. Aujourd'hui, la production de GMC est on ne peut plus variée, avec ses SUV, ses pickups, ses camions légers, etc. elle a cependant, pour des raisons de rationalisation, se séparer d'activités telles que ambulances, voitures de pompiers, véhicules militaires, motorhomes,…

If you could see how this 1955 Chevy glows in the showroom, perhaps then you'd understand how brilliantly built it truly is. In a place that's filled with cool cars, this bright yellow shoebox stands out, and it takes one heck of a car to do that around here.

Stunning is one word for the paint job on this shoebox Chevy, and it'll stand up to the tightest scrutiny you can imagine. Bodywork is straight enough to calibrate NASA's instruments, panel gaps are so even they look like they were set with micrometers, and the finish is deep enough to host an Olympic diving competition. But they didn't go overboard, and instead kept the original trim intact, albeit restored to show levels. There's probably enough money in the chrome to cover a year's worth of mortgage payments, and the stainless has been straightened and buffed to match. Look closely and you'll find neat little details, like the Chevy bowties in the taillight lenses, or the cat's eye bulbs in the headlights. Not enough that the car looks custom, but the kind of subtlety that you only appreciate with a closer examination.

On the other hand, the interior will simply blow you away. Finished in a supple natural-finish leather that's as comfortable as your favorite chair, it has been extensively modified to become a first-class passenger compartment-seriously, you haven't traveled this well since the limo at your wedding. Custom buckets are supportive and comfortable, the custom console even has fitted cupholders, and the door panels echo the exterior trim, including Bel Air script. Power windows, locks, A/C, and a tilt wheel make it easy to feel at home inside, and it's especially cool to see three pedals and a Hurst cue ball in the center console. Classic Instruments put all the gauges in the original instrument panel and there's a Panasonic AM/FM/CD stereo supplying tunes to a variety of speakers throughout the cabin. Even the trunk is custom finished using more of that natural leather and deep pile carpet.

This Chevy also delivers big in the horsepower department, thanks to a Chevy 350 crate motor that has been detailed to shine. There's a ton of chrome under the hood, and anything that wasn't polished or shined was painted yellow to match the body, including the block itself. Aluminum heads, a polished Edelbrock intake, and long-tube headers dumping into a stainless Magnaflow exhaust all add up to big fun on the road. The 4-speed slips through the gears easily while feeding the 10-bolt out back. The entire suspension was rebuilt, including 2-inch drop spindles up front and a set of shackles out back to give it just the right stance. And to bring it into the 21st century, a set of staggered alloys wearing 235/45/17 front and 255/45/18 rear Nitto radials was installed.

If someone told me this car cost $100,000 to build, I wouldn't be surprised-it looks like a million bucks. Call today!
