When you think of a Model A coupe, you usually think of the more common 5-window variant instead of this cool sport coupe. With a fabric top that looks like a folding cabriolet roof, complete with landau irons, it's a less common version that almost never gets a full makeover such as this. It's a cool alternative for the guy who thinks he's seen it all.
The body is all Henry Ford steel, with a correct wooden-framed fabric roof, now finished well beyond factory standards. The original design's charm remains 100% intact as well, with great details like the original bumpers, grille, and rear-mounted spare, all still rendered in bright stainless steel and chrome. Someone invested a ton of time in getting the bodywork straight enough to wear that dazzling black paint, and panel fit is as good as you can get with a Model A and its wooden frame. Even the original louvered hood remains in place. Custom touches include the King-Bee headlights on a dropped bar, which is a popular upgrade, a bright grille guard, and, of course, neatly integrated turn signals. The top is a wooden frame covered in canvas for a faux convertible look, but it is fixed in place, although the rear window opens to permit conversation with rumble seat passengers.
Inside, handsome tan leather with a very authentic-looking pleated pattern gives this A a period feel. Matching door panels and a finished package shelf are nice additions, and the wooden dashboard is far nicer than the original, which was nothing more than the outside of the cowl-mounted gas tank. That handsome wooden insert allows a full array of VDO instruments with antique-looking faces and needles, as well as a low-mounted A/C system that is incredibly effective inside the compact coupe's passenger compartment. The fat wooden steering wheel feels suitably old in your hands, and a floor-mounted shifter echoes the Model A's original setup. And I'm especially pleased to see a proper rumble seat out back, fully upholstered to match.
The engine is a 327 cubic inch Chevy double hump V8, a cool vintage rod powerplant that works well with the sport coupe's style. Dressed up with a ton of polished aluminum, chrome and stainless, it's reliable, powerful, and makes all the right sounds. Block hugging headers and tightly mounted accessories allow it to fit under the A's stock hood, and it was no easy feat getting things like the heat and A/C to fit in there. Underneath, the stock frame has been heavily modified, although there's still a rigid axle at both ends. A TH400 3-speed automatic manages the gear swaps, and there's a rugged 10-bolt rear hanging on a 4-link suspension. 4-wheel discs are a major upgrade for this Model A, and classic wire wheels wear staggered 195/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear radials.
With just 4300 miles since it was completed, this A has already won some pretty impressive awards. An unusual rod with a ton of charm. Call today!
